THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF CHURCH MUSIC – PLAY THE ORGAN YEAR 2025
The Director of the RSCM, Hugh Morris, is challenging church organists all over the world to play the same piece of music at the same time on the organ in their own place of worship, whether it’s a cathedral or a village church, to highlight the need for more church organists.
On Saturday 22nd November 2025
Michael Hockney, the organist at St Andrew’s Church,
will play the hauntingly beautiful Ombra Mai Fu from Handel’s Xerxes
in St Andrew’s Church, Donhead St Andrew
From 1.00 pm coffee, tea and cake will be served
1.30pm Short demonstration of the versatility of the organ, often described as ‘the king of instruments‘
1.40pm Brief talk about the RSCM, the contribution of music in worship and the importance of
organ playing
