Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - December 2020

Remember to keep those requests coming in and also to tell us of any answers to The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Julia (tel: 01747 829166), or Theresa (tel: 01747 829188).

Prayer of the Month
Two prayers this month - the first I pray every year about this time, and the second is one which I find reminds me about how I should behave towards others!!

May the joy of the angels,
the eagerness of the shepherds,
the perseverance of the wise men,
the obedience of Joseph and Mary,
and the peace of the Christ child
be ours this Christmas.
Amen

This Prayer is adapted from one written by Richard Baxter sometime in the late 1600’s:

Keep us O Lord, while we pass our way on earth,
in a mind and heart seeking for you.
Keep us aware of your teaching and help us to put it into practise
so that we use the gifts and talents we were born with for the benefit of others. Help us, we pray, to be aware of your presence and your love
so that we want to share it with our friends, families and neighbours.
Amen

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - November 2020

Do keep asking for prayers and do please let the Minister know at the beginning of a Service if you wish them to pray for someone in the Intercessions. We tend to be careful about saying names unless someone has asked.

Prayer requests and Thanksgivings please to The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Julia (tel: 01747 829166), or Theresa (tel: 01747 829188). Perhaps you have a special “Thank-you to God for the memory of a loved one”. Remember that we shall be celebrating their time with us at our All Souls Service.

Prayer of the Month
Sometimes we need to have a little time just to ourselves, and sometimes we can use that time to think about God and our own lives.

Loving God,
Here I sit and wait,
Thinking about life
And this wonderful world around us.
I sit in quiet hope that you will come
To water the barren fields of my life.
To make my life blossom
With flowers and fruit like the earth you created
Be with me day by day I ask,
Help me to live
A life which is a Blessing to others.
Amen

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - March 2021

Prayer Of The Month

Two Prayers for you this month:

The Collect Or Special Prayer For Mothering Sunday

God of compassion, whose son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary,
shared the life of a home in Nazareth,
and on the cross drew the whole human family to himself;
strengthen us in our daily living
that in joy and in sorrow
we may know the power of your presence
to bind us together and to heal;
through Jesus Christ your Son, our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

A Prayer for Help

God, our Heavenly Father,
You know our lives are filled with many dangers and temptations,
You also know that we are often weak
and we fail to resist those very temptations.
Give us strength and courage we pray.
Support us when things seem so hard.
Wrap us in your loving arms and keep us safe.
Amen.

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - February 2021

Do continue to ask for prayers and let us know if there is any way we can help. Contact any of us: The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Julia (tel: 01747 829166), or Theresa (tel: 01747 829188).

Prayer Of The Month

Our prayer for this month is a reminder that we need God’s guidance and help:

Heavenly Father,
We remember with gratitude,
The light of the star which drew them on;
those wise men, travelling with their gifts
for a fellow wise man , and a king.

We believe that light draws us on;
Draws us to Jesus, Light of the World,
Draws us to give ourselves.

And the Light that is Jesus,
also gives us light;
it shows us the way,
it shines before us to encourage us.
This is light; true light; the LIght of the world;
the light that is a way of peace, hope, justice and forgiveness;
The Light that is Love in a darkened world;
and the way to God, Father of us all. Amen

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - October 2020

Although we do not meet regularly just now there are still several of us who are committed to praying regularly for those in need so please do continue to give us your requests. Contact any of us: The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Julia (tel: 01747 829166), Theresa (tel: 01747 829188) or the Rev’d Kevin (tel: 01747 828551).

Prayer Of The Month

This Prayer is by Canon Frank Topping and is for forgiveness. I am sure we shall all resonate with this! I certainly did.
Lord,
Why is it so difficult,
To make peace with each other?
No wonder there are wars.
Is it pride that holds my mouth tight shut,
A childish feeling
that I am not the one who should apologise?
It wasn’t my fault?
In these flare ups
What does it matter whose fault it is?
The only thing that matters is love and harmony.
Lord, turning my back in anger is weakness,
It reduces me as a human being.
Give me the courage,
the stature,
to say I am sorry
Amen

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - January 2021

Please do continue to make your requests for prayer known to us. Prayer changes things. Contact any of us: The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Julia (tel: 01747 829166), or Theresa (tel: 01747 829188). There are many of us in need of that extra help and comfort that comes from knowing someone is praying for us.

Prayer Of The Month

O Lord our God,
teach our hearts this day
where and how to see you,
where and how to find you.
You have made and remade us,
and you have given us all the good things we possess,
and still we do not know you.
We have not yet done that for which we were created.
Teach us to seek you,
for we cannot seek you unless you teach us,
or find you unless you show yourself to us.
Let us seek you in our longing,
let us long for you in our seeking.
Let us find you by loving you,
Let us love you when we find you.  Amen

Ride + Stride - Saturday 12th September 2020

ride stride logo s

Are you looking to raise money for maintenance/repairs to your church?

Why not join Ride + Stride on Saturday 12th September 2020?

Taking part in Ride + Stride is an excellent way to combine raising a bit of money for church repairs and maintenance with spending an enjoyable day out exploring the local area on foot, bike or horseback, and visiting some of Wiltshire’s rich heritage of churches and chapels.

Wiltshire Ride + Stride (or its predecessor the Great Cycle Ride) has been going since 1984 and has raised over £1.5 million for the county’s churches. Half of all money raised goes to your own church, and the other half is used by the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust to award grants to churches with special maintenance needs.

You don’t have to be young and super-fit: just strolling between one church and another can constitute participation in Ride + Stride, and most sponsors are generous enough to reward even the shortest of journeys. For the more competitive, however, there are cash prizes for the best achievers, including several for under 16-year-olds, and parishes which mobilise large numbers of participants can compete for the Brooke Cup (plus £500) and Junior Group Cup for the under-18s (plus £100).

Anyone can join in on 12th September 2020. Plan a route that suits your energy levels or get ideas from http://www.visitwiltshire.co.uk/things-to-do/activities/cycling . The chances are very high that you will enjoy the day!

Information and sponsorship forms are available from Wiltshire Historic Church Trust - https://www.wiltshirehistoricchurchestrust.org.uk/ride-stride/

Wiltshire's Ride+Stride is supported by the National Churches Trust.

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - September 2020

With this very strange time of “Lockdown” there have been several requests for prayer this last month, but God’s heart is big enough for a lot more. Please do let us know if you would like us to pray for you. Contact any of us: The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Julia (tel: 01747 829166), Theresa (tel: 01747 829188) or the Rev’d Kevin (tel: 01747 828551).

Prayer Of The Month

The following Prayer is by Canon Frank Topping and is very appropriate at this Harvest Season:

Lord, your harvest is the harvest of love;
love sown in the hearts of people;
love that spreads out
like the branches  of a great tree
covering all who seek its shelter;
love that inspires and recreates;
love that is planted in the weak and the weary,
the sick and the dying.
The harvest of your love is the life that reaches
through the weeds of sin and death
to the sunlight of resurrection.
Lord, nurture my days with your love,
water my soul with the dew of forgiveness,
that the harvest of my life might be your joy.
Amen

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - August 2020

Prayer Of The Month

As we look forward to new adventures with all that is happening with COVID and different ways of 'doing' church, this little prayer may help us to move forward more confidently knowing God is with us.

Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God
teach us to walk in Your way more trustfully,
to accept Your truth more faithfully,
and to share Your life more lovingly.
By the power of the Holy Spirit
guide us in our word for your Church,
so that we may become as one family,
wanting only to serve you and our community.
Amen

Prayers of the Month

These two prayers are quite different but I do hope that one of them at least may help you this month.

Father, thank you for the thrill of finding something new.
Thank you for the joy of discovering something we didn’t know before.
Thank you for the discoveries we make,
about life,
about love,
about ourselves.
Thank you for other peoples new ideas,
and all the inventions which add to the joy of our lives. Amen.

Roy Chapman & Donald Hilton.

A Prayer of Bishop Richard Harries:

Lord,
You are the deepest wisdom,
the deepest truth,
the deepest love,
within me.
Lead me in your way. Amen
